What’s the only thing better than a chic new hotel in Barcelona? A chic new hotel in Barcelona that serves — and smells like — freshly baked bread. Opening this week in the Gaudí-building-studded Eixample district, the Hotel Praktik Bakery would be an attraction for its airy interiors, by the designer Lazaro Rosa-Violán, alone: the 74 rooms feature subtle antique-industrial touches on a restful white palette. But it’s the vast lobby — with its outpost of the acclaimed local breadsmith Anna Bellsolá’s Baluard bakery churning out loaves and pastries morning, noon and night — that makes the place a must-book. And for an establishment devoted to the possibilities of dough, the hotel doesn’t require all that much of it: rates begin at less than 100 euros per night.
